Madrid
Se dice que Madrid es una ciudad de extremos. Una luz brillante en las montañas y graves sombras en las casas, inviernos fríos y veranos de un caloi agobiante. Así es Castilla, tierra seca y acogedora al mismo tiempo.
La capital de España está situada a orillas del río Manzanares en el centro del país Gracias a ello, se comunica perfectamente con todas las provincias de España. En los alrededores de Madrid se encuentran importantes centros históricos y culturales, como Alcalá de Henares y El Escorial No lejos de la ciudad se alza el Palacio de la Zarzuela; es la residencia de los reyes de España.
Madrid es una de las ciudades mas jóvenes de Europa Su historia comienza en 852, cuando los árabes construyen en su lugar actual una fortaleza. Es reconquistado en 1083. Durante cinco siglos más la ciudad no es más que un satélite de Toledo, hasta que Felipe 11 se establece allí en 1561. Por aquel entonces Madrid cuenta con sólo 20.000 habitantes.
Con la llegada de la Corte Madrid empieza a crecer rápidamente. Pronto se transforma en una ciudad moderna y monumental, de amplias avenidas y paseos de árboles, como lo es hoy. Los jardines del Parque de Retiro atraen a una multitud de madrileños, sobre todo los domingos. La Puerta del Sol está adornada con la imagen emblemática del Oso y el Madroño. En la Nochevieja la gente se reúne allí para comer las doce uvas y así despedirse del Año Viejo.
Hoy Madrid puede competir con París o Nueva York, tiene muchas galerías de arte y su vida nocturna es muy activa. Los jóvenes visten con buen gusto, la gente es optimista. Pero, como toda gran capital, a veces da motivo de quejas.
El transporte es caótico y hay muchos embotellamientos. Para llegar al trabajo desde los suburbios se tarda muchísimo. Los turistas tienen miedo del robo de bolsos, lo que es por algo. Por último, las drogas también han aparecido en la ciudad.
Pero estos problemas encontrarán solución. Lo importante es querer a su ciudad, y los madrileños efectivamente la quieren.
Ciudad de España (oficialmente villa), en la comunidad autónoma de Madrid, capital del reino de España. Esta situada al sur de la sierra de Guadarrama y a orillas del Manzanares, y cuenta con 3.188.300 h.
The capital of Spain, located in the heart of the peninsula and right in the center of the Castillian plain 646 meters above sea level, has a population of over three million. A cosmopolitan city, a business center, headquarters for the Public Administration, Government, Spanish Parliament and the home of the Spanish Royal Family, Madrid also plays a major role in both the banking and industrial sectors. Most of its industry is located in the Southern fringe of the city, where important textile, food and metal working factories are clustered. Madrid is characterized by intense cultural and artistic activity and a very lively nightlife.
The grand metropolis of Madrid can trace its origins to the times of Arab Emir Mohamed I (852-886), who ordered the construction of a fortress on the left bank of the Manzanares river. Later it became the subject of a dispute between the Christians and Arabs until it was conquered by Alonso VI in the 11th century. At the end of the 17th century, a defensive wall was built for the protection of the new outlying areas, tracing the roads of Segovia, Toledo and Valencia. During the 18th century, under the reign of Carlos III, were designed the great arteries of the city, such as the Paseo del Prado and Paseo las Acacias.
At the beginning of the 19th century, Joseph Bonaparte undertook the reform of the Puerta del Sol and vicinity. The commercial street known as the Gran Vнa was built as an east-west avenue at the start of the century. In the 1950's the north-south boulevard called Paseo de la Castellana was extended and modern buildings were erected, housing the major financial institutions. Remainings of the distant past are mainly the Baroque and neoclassical strcutures of the 17th and 18th centuries, such as the Plaza Mayor (Main Square), the Palacio Real (Royal Palace) and others which will be described later during our guide of the city.
